story of Hobel Wine Works began in 1998, when Cameron Hobel first met friend
and winemaker Thomas Brown in Napa. Cameron was working as the Director of
Business Development of a wine auction site and Thomas was working as Assistant
Winemaker at Turley Wine Cellars. Their mutual love of great wine led to many
shared dinners and glasses of wine, where they discussed the prospect of
finding a project that would allow them to work together in producing a
world-class wine. The opportunity finally arose eleven years later, with the premier release of the 2009 Hobel Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2012 vintage will really wow you, it is AMAZING!
The Wine: If the dictionary had a definition for an ideal growing season, 2012 would almost certainly be it. Warm, early start with a great fruit set led to a warm, but never too hot, season that allowed us to pick the fruit on our terms. These rarely seen set of circumstances led us to making what I feel is the best Hobel Cabernet to date. Tremendous mouthfeel, packed with dense fruit and hints of cassis but with a fresh underpinning of acidity to keep the energy and tension. The tannins are fine and mouth coating, the finish powerful and long. Enjoy now with a healthy decant or cellar for 5-10 years.
PS: Thomas Rivers Brown is the face behind Schrader (100 Points), Pulido Walker, Post Parade, Stone the Crows, Rivers Marie etc. wines.
