Galerie 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Knight's Valley
Robert Parker 91 Points: "The other Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Latro is 100% from Jackson family owned vineyards in Knights Valley. Aged 20 months in 63% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a more earthy, tannic, structured style of Cabernet Sauvignon compared to the Pleinair from Napa. It is dense ruby/purple and shows licorice, Christmas fruitcake, blackcurrants and loamy soil notes in abundance. It is medium-bodied, elegant and very well made. Drink it over the next 15+ years."
The Wine: Latro takes its name from the Latin word for “hunter,” a reference to Knights Valley’s history as a private hunting reserve before the development of vineyards in the area. Hard, inhospitable mountain soils restrict root development, which creates smaller berries and lower yields that bring distinctively mineral notes to this 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The darkly handsome result is a charismatic and versatile wine with instant, irresistible appeal.
Winemaker Notes: "A combination of red-black wild berries with sweet toffee, cacao and cedar aromas precede elegant notes of forest floor (herbs de provence) and smashed rocks, graphite. Silky, well balanced round mouth-feel with a mineral background and ample elegant tannins. Nice and balanced with natural acidity that promises many years to enjoy."
