Torrin 2013 "Banshee" GSM Central Coast - 95 Points Parker

Torrin 2013 The Banshee GSM Paso Robles

Winery Notes:

48% Syrah / 32% Grenache / 20% Mourvedre

The 2013 Banshee is a fantastic example of a wine that manages to successfully walk the line between power and grace.  The texture and length of this wine are incredible and how the savory and earthy backbone complexes the rich dark blue and black fruits is a thing of beauty.  While the majority of the fruit in this wine comes from our estate vineyard, for 2013 we opted to include a bit of Syrah from Shadow Canyon Vineyard on York Mountain just west of us.  While only about a 15 minute bike ride from here, York Mountain is its own AVA and is not included in the Paso Robles AVA.  As a result, the AVA designation on our blend must be classified as Central Coast.  Aged in a combination of larger 500 liter puncheons and traditional 228 liter barrels, the wine certainly lets the purity of the fruit take the lead with the oak simply adding depth and texture.

Robert Parker 95 Points : "A blend of 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre, the 2013 The Banshee Proprietary Blend is another terrific wine from this estate. Offering notes of black fruits, pepper, smoked herbs and hints of flowers, this beauty is full-bodied, ultra-pure, multidimensional and layered, with considerable elegance and finesse. Coming from the Torrin Estate vineyard and the Shadow Canyon vineyard on York Mountain (this is outside the Paso Robles AVA, hence the Central Coast AVA for this release), it saw one-third whole clusters and 18 months in 30% new French oak. Drink it anytime over the coming decade."
